Christy Cheever – RYT, Certified Jivamukti Yoga Instructor

Christy Cheever is the founder and director of Artisan Yoga. When Christy first began taking yoga classes in 1998, she was immediately intrigued by the transformative physical challenge of asana practice and the vast spiritual nature of yogic philosophy. She found yoga to be a natural complement to her training in modern dance and ballet. After years spent developing the foundation of her practice, Christy went on to complete the 200-hour Teacher Training program at the Spirit of Yoga in West Chester, PA, in 2006, and began teaching vinyasa flow yoga shortly thereafter.

Christy’s continued interest in the artful sequencing of asanas and commitment to creating an environment of high intention, spirituality and breath awareness in her classes inspired her to explore the teachings of Jivamukti Yoga, an internationally-recognized style of hatha yoga which was founded on the belief that the path to enlightenment is established through compassion for all beings. She is grateful to have had the opportunity to complete a 300-hour intensive Teacher Training program with Jivamukti Yoga co-founders, Sharon Gannon and David Life, in residence at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY.

Prior to establishing Artisan Yoga, Christy worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a patent attorney. She holds an advanced degree in Biochemistry from the University of Pennsylvania and a law degree from Villanova University. Christy’s passion for the creative potential embodied in movement inspires her to infuse the yoga sequences in her classes with elements of modern dance, to craft a physically challenging, uplifting and fun experience for her students. She is privileged to be able to share what she has learned from her enlightened teachers, and believes that the essential guiding principle associated with being a yoga teacher is to take action to be of service to others.

Philosophy

I believe that the gifts of yoga should be acessible to everyone, regardless of age or experience level.

In my classes I strive to foster a true community spirit, and I aim to get to know each student personally. Classes are smaller in size and taught in a way that allows for greater learning through quality teacher-student interactions. To honor the universal nature of yoga, I adhere to the philosophy that mind/body balance and internal wisdom are the highest goals of the practice.

My teaching philosophy reflects the diverse and dedicated interests of my own teachers. Yoga is my craft, and I wish to instill in my students a desire to hone this craft, to create something of value that is based in experience. I have had the honor of teaching all levels of practitioner, from beginner students through advanced.

There are many benefits of yoga including increased flexibility and strength, a calmer quieter mind, and improved sleep and mood. Whether you're brand new to yoga or a seasoned practitioner already on the path, I hope that you will find value in the unique perspective I have to offer.
